Sad stuff

15:11 Mar 31 2008
Times Read: 729

On Friday I was reading the local news. It seems Thursday evening a Police Detective in a local township was found in the evidence room of the Police complex with a single self-inflicted gunshot to the head. Despite the efforts of fellow Officers ond medical personnel he was not able to be saved. No reason is know why he decided to take his own life.

It turns out that this man was the father of my son David's work partner at school. David is distraught over this. He feels so bad for his friend and is worried that other kids at school will ridicule his friend over his dad's manner of death.

That is really sad...Frustrating that life is that way. I hope all the best for David's friend, you wouldn't think people - even children - would be nasty enough to make fun of someone for something like that...but after my experiences in public schools...Yeah..

I hope not. Gods- people need to walk in others shoes before they start running their mouths.

Give your son a hug, and I know you will help him.

That is a sad thing to happen. And children can be cruel....sigh.... But, I know you will be there to support David and his friend if need be.

Thank You Cancer.

I'm sure the bitching will be frantic today about the system crash yesterday.

The fault lies not with "The Sytem" but with hardware manufacturers. I know that in my family we have had hard drive failures on all but one of our computers over the past several months. The manufactures use the cheapest components possible and they do not last. I know what a colossal pain in the ass it was dealing with ONE hard drive with just ONE person's stuff. The amount od data all of VR takes must be enormous.

The fact that we have the system back and only lost some pictures is a miracle to me. As with all such problems, Cancer has also learned from it and is putting even more safeguards in place. When something similar happens in the future the recovery will be faster and more complete.

I'm sure this issue was the ultimate "Bad day at work" for Cancer. Thaks for your hard work in getting things back up.

I got a phone call last night from one of the members of my Civil War group. It turns out the St. Patrick's day parade that was rained out a few weeks ago has been rescheduled for this Saturday. So Dave and I will head out early and go march in a parade on Saturday. It's not much effort and the unit gets about $500.00 from the parade organizers. We should be home by 1:00 pm or so, so a nice morning out.

Back to work today with a long way to go until a day off. I have about 5 projects I am working on, all of which are "TOP" priority! Well, I can only do the best I can. I prioritize them myself based on how much I know they will actually save the company, not what the idiots in purchasing have told managment they might save.

Gina is looking forward to the weekend already. Baseball season is about ready to start. Sge and her best friend have tickets to an exhibition game on Saturday and the home opener on Monday. They are staying at a hotel near the ball park Saturday and Sunday nights. All day Sunday they plan on just hanging out in Philly, South Street , Reading Terminal and Old City. I'll be home with David. I'm sure we'll find something to do!

My weekend so far.

21:02 Mar 22 2008
Times Read: 807

Skipped out of work early on Thursday as A)I was feeling like crap and B) had to be at church at 6:30 to warm up for the Maundy Thursday Service. I didn't feel too bad while warming up so I figured I would be OK for the service. We process in during the first hymn and my chest wast getting a bit ticklish. Sit down for a prayer and I bust into a coughing fit! Oh well! At least I didn't cough while singing. The rest of the service was very nice.

Friday I went to figure out why Gina's car was having a crappy idle. Went to pull each plug wire to see if one was the culprit. Well The 1st one I grabbed obviously had an insulation fault as I got the 50,000 volt shock right up my arm as soon as I touched it! So I had a project for Saturday.

Gina made yummy crabcakes for dinner last night and then we went to church for Good Friday service. We didn't have to sing as this was a contemporary service and the praise band played, thus no choir. The service was very nice. Got home and spent some time in the vamp box with some loonies I know.

This morning I slept in until 10:00! What a rare treat! Went to the parts store and got stuff to fix Gina's car. I broke a bolt off that was badly rusted so ended up spending 3 hours on a 15 min. job. Gina got some bad news. A friend's dad (who I wrote about several entries ago) passed away early this morning. Gina had to run off and be with her friend. I love that about her. She is always there when someone needs a friend. Reminds me of a Rat I know...

Tonight we dye eggs and have to make baskets for our adult babies. They are 22, 21 and 14 and still expect a visit from "The Easter Bunny".

Well, there you have it...My boring life from the past 3 days. I just don't want anyone yelling at me for not making the occasional entry here!

Came in to work today as I was feeling a little better this morning.

I should have stayed home. I'm coughing up all kinds of amazingly colored goo. I can't take the cough medicine and be at work as it really made me woooooozzzzy. At least I can breathe through my nose when I'm not coughing.

I think I will try to cut out early this afternoon.

I've had a stuffed up nose since last week. Sunday night my throat started to hurt. Yesterday I started coughing up all sorts of technicolor goop. Three people at work have been hospitalized with pneumonia over the past several weeks, so I figured I should go see the doctor.

So I have a sinus infection and bronchitis. He gave me perscriptions for a heavy duty decongestant, antibiotics and cough syrup with codine.

So I'm pretty loopy right now on the cough syrup!

I'm going to have to miss choir practice tonight..I hope I'm ok to sing tomorrow night for the Maundy Thursday service.

Actually dear, singing will help clear out your sinuses, as you sing in your upper register. My choir director, usually WANTS us at the practice, although we sat seperate from the choir. Apparently the singing breaks things up and you get better faster. *shrugs* I don't know bull, just some advice from your wise ole owl.

What a messed up day!

20:44 Mar 10 2008

Today got off to a bad start at work.

Act I:

I went to get a cup of coffe right after I got in, and I was walking through the plant back to my office. Over the intercom someone frantically shouts..."Anyone who knows CPR please come to Press 1". So I dump my coffee in a trash can and go running to press 1. When I get there the operator and one of the assistants are helping the third assistant to walk towards the end of the press and he has blood streaming down his face. We get him sat down and he is very disoriented. It turns out that he was just walking along and passed out cold falling face first onto the concrete floor. His glasses cut the bridge of his nose and he also had a big gash in his lip from hitting the floor. I called 911 and got an ambulance on the way. A few other first responders started talking to him and keeping him calm, and also cleaned up the cuts and applied pressure to stop the bleeding. I ran outside to await the ambulance. When the ambulance and police arrived they got him on a stretcher and into the ambulace quickly and off to the hospital. We just heard from him and he is still in the hospital, will be at least overnight undegoing tests.

Act II:

Gina spent today helping out a friend who doesn't drive. Taking her to some appointments, grocery shopping, etc. At the end of their rounds they stopped by to check in on her friends Dad. He was in bad shape, having trouble breathing, etc. Gina just called to tell me about this and they are awaiting an ambulance now and will then be at the hospital waiting to see what the doctors have to say.

Act II:

I log in to VR and am browsing the House forum. A friend and fellow "Eternian" posted a request for prayers for her Sister - in - law who is in the hospital with heart trouble.

They say these things run in threes. I sure as hell hope so, as I don't want anyone else I know carted off in an ambulance with health problems today.

So I'm reading my foavorite journals. I read one taking those on her favorite journals list to task for not making entries. Well, knowing that it's been over a week since my last entry I rush to see if I am on her favorites. Sure enough! Thanks for keeping me in line Joli!

Anywho...We had a goofy week at work this week. We had an off site managment meeting working on our "Strategic Initiative Deployment". Two consultants lead the festivities. The two days were run on a baseball theme, we all had to wear some sort of baseball related apparel. I wore a Phillies jersey and hat. It was quite annoying, actually. The meeting was held at the local Country Club and I have to say that the food there pretty much sucked. We got broken into teams and assigned nearly impossible goals to be completed by the end of this year.

Today I got to do all the work that I should have done Wednesday and Thursday.

I R A Moron!

20:24 Mar 02 2008
Times Read: 937

On Thursday evening on my way home from Davids Boy Scout meeting the little "Low Fuel" light came on in my car. I didn't have any mony or cards on me so I went home and figured I would just have to stop for gas on my way in to work on Friday.

Friday morning I had to go in early. Gina was feeling for me so she asked if I wanted to take her car to work (which had gas) and she would drive mine to do grocery shopping, run some other errands and she would fill up my tank on the way. This sounded good to me as now I would only have to leave early, no extra early on Friday morning.

So, Friday arrives, I head out the door, get in Gina's car and head in to work. I was in a meeting that I could not leave from 8:00 AM to 1:00PM. At 10:00AM Gina was ready to head out on her rounds. The problem was...we only have ONE key to my car...and it was in my pocket!

So poor Gina was stuck at home all day Friday! Indeed...I forgot my brain when I woke up on Friday!
